Why do you collect taxes and duties in advance (or at the time the order is placed)?Updated 2 months ago

We collect the taxes and duties in advance for 2 reasons:

1. It makes for a speedier delivery

2. There are no surprises about the total cost you’ll be required to pay

When we collect the taxes and duties in advance, we enable the carrier (i.e. FedEx or DHL) to act as the broker on your and our behalfs. They take responsibility to paying the T&D to the importing countries Custom’s office. They then bill us for that amount.

The other option that we no longer utilize is to have the shipping carrier (or the customs office) contact you directly and attempt to collect the T&D prior to scheduling the delivery.

This is other option is the 2nd reason why we prefer to collect the T&D at the time of the order. You do NOT get contacted when your package is ready to be delivered with an additional bill. This prevents any surprises (some customer are not even aware that T&D needs to be paid) and it also saves multiple extra days of delay as the contact and collection is made.
